South End is getting a new spot for classic cocktails

If you’re a cocktail fan, this is interesting news:

First, the Dilworth Tasting Room, 300 E. Tremont Ave., is adding a short but interesting list of classic cocktails (think French 75s, Hanky Pankys and gimlets).

Second, owner Jaffer Kovic is also adding a couple of specials he’s calling “Break Even” bottles, special top-shelf liquors that will be sold at cost.

Dilworth Tasting Room opened earlier this year in the space that used to be Dilworth Billiards, mostly focusing on wines, a short beer list and a small-plates menu.

The new cocktail list will focus on classics with a few modern twists, like Japanese whiskey. A few of the standouts on the menu: The French 75 (gin, lemon and Champagne), Luchadors Last Word (mezcal, maraschino, lime and green chartreuse) and Daiquiri No. 4 (pineapple rum, lime and maraschino). The Break Even bottles will change regularly, but will start with 17-year-old Balvenie Doublewood Single Malt ($14 for a 2-ounce pour) and Yellowstone Kentucky Straight Bourbon ($12 for 2 ounces). Cocktails will be $12.

Kovic also plans to offer a new food menu starting this fall, and he’s making adjustments to the wine retail area, with new selections.
